21 August -  Django Django

Unquiet Desperation presents Summer Sounds…

Django Django

This four-piece met at art school in Edinburgh and now live in fashionable east London.  The emphasis is on cadence, although they’re not heavy on the electronics.  It’s quite tricky to explain quite what it is that Django Django do, which is good, because it suggests they’re doing something a little bit different.  The subtle, skittish electronics lay over energetic beats which plain and simply make you want to dance.  The wild-west guitar work keeps a low profile and their tribal image and the odd Arabian melody holds them somewhere between the worlds of folk and dance.  Yeasayer and hot chip come to mind.  Catch their dj set on the 21st of August.

SOUTH YORKS - Off-Tramlines Party

DJ’s - Winston Hazel, Oris Jay, Chris Duckenfield, Pipes, Benjamin Hatton and Kid Acne.

Kid Acne made music working alongside British graffiti stalwart Req One and his ever trusty “drum computer”, recording nocturnal stream-of-conscious lyrics about such topics as “rocking to Breaker’s Revenge at Stonehenge” and being “the illegal mic dragster”. After releasing a string of council-house hip-hop Lp’s and 12"s on his own Invisible Spies imprint, he landed himself a deal with Lex / EMI, joined forces with Sheffield heavyweight producer Ross Orton and released Romance Ain’t Dead to wide critical acclaim. Acne has since created exclusive sessions for Radio 1’s Breezeblock, DJed at Big Chill and Bestival as part of Rizla’s Invisible Players and performed live at Sonar and Pantiero Festival in Cannes.

Secousse Soundsystem - AJ Holmes (The Hackney Empire) & Vamanos (DJs)
Jen-Wah-Zee (DJ)
Jen-Wah-Zee’s tropical-latin-afro boogie party night returns with special guests Secousse Soundsystem.
Secousse has been gracing London’s dancefloors with some of the most exciting Tropical party music in the world since their formation back in 2007. The night was started by internationally respected, white hot production duo, Radioclit, whose untouchable credits include Santigold, Esau Mwamwaya and M.I.A. The night has been critically acclaimed for its blend of live bands and worldbeat riot inducing DJ sets. It has an all encompassing music policy playing the fresh sounds of ‘new whirled music’ spreading like wildfire via Myspace, hipster blogs and dance music forums: Kuduro from Angola, Kwaito from South Africa, Baile funk from Brazil, Coupe decale from Ivory Coast or Reggaeton and Cumbia from Latin America.

Friday 18th December at Bungalows and Bears… ASBO A GOGO

Friday 18th December at Bungalows and Bears… ASBO A GOGO

We say: Recently bigged up by the Guardian, ASBO a GO GO is an enduring Bungalows party institution. Two girls who got fed up of hearing shit music on nights out and decided to sort it out. If you like Yezza, Li-Lo, Babes in Toyland, Fugazi, Pat Benatar (!), Talking Heads, Timbaland, Robyn or The Specials and dancing on a Friday night then you’ll like what the ASBO lasses are about.

The ASBO girls say:”You’ll go to bed dreaming of this night, and wake up moist.” Right then.
